GHPD warns of possible telecommunications fraud

Posted on June 14, 2016 at 3:01 PM by Laura Oldham

thecityofgrandviewheightsGHPD took a report regarding a Grandview Heights resident being the victim of a telecommunication fraud. GHPD would like to get the word out that this is a scam so that others do not fall victim to the same crime.

The suspect called the victim and stated he was with the Sheriff’s office. The suspect demanded the victim pay $1,200 for missing jury duty. When the victim stated they could not pay, a $900 amount was negotiated to be sent to the suspect. The victim was advised that she would be reimbursed upon appearing for a future jury duty date.

The Grandview Heights Police Department would like to remind the community that law enforcement will never call anyone to seek payment over the phone for any issue or incident that may arise. Any such request should be considered suspicious and reported to your local police department. If you experience anything suspicious, please contact GHPD at 614-488-7901
