If you have questions about how to protect yourself and prepare for COVID-19 in your community, the Ohio Department of Health (OHD) can provide answers. The ODH coronavirus disease 2019 call center can be reached at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH. ODH staffers operate the center seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, including weekends. Call center staff includes licensed nurses and infectious disease experts. They are available to answer questions and provide accurate information about COVID-19, the risk to the public, and the state’s response.

Starting Tuesday, May 5, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) will add early-morning weekday service to six high-ridership service lines. Beginning Tuesday, Lines 1, 2, 8, 10, 22 and CMAX will run daily from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., beginning two hours earlier than they have been operating. COTA continues to adjust service to provide essential travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also easing the demand on front line employees, such as transit operators. Customers can view the new changes to service at COTA.com. Anyone impacted by service changes are encouraged to visit COTA.com or call COTA Customer Care at (614) 228-1776.
Starting Monday, April 27, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) will begin running new service to better meet the current essential travel needs of customers while reducing demands on employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Service will be consistent seven days a week, running from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. With overall COTA ridership down 65% since early March, frequency will be reduced on some lines but maintained on those experiencing higher ridership. COTA will require customers to wear masks beginning Wednesday, April 15.
To help protect customers and COTA employees from the spread of Coronavirus, we are taking the important step of requiring customers to wear masks. Masks can be either medical or homemade and can include scarves or bandanas. They must fully cover the nose and mouth.

COTA is temporarily suspending fare collection for all trips. Beginning Thursday, March 19 all COTA transit rides will be no fare. We are asking all customers to enter and exit through the rear doors to encourage social distancing and to keep you safe.
The changes made are to protect the health and safety of our customers and employees by encouraging social distancing, while maintaining mobility for essential trips.
Examples of Essential Travel are:
- To obtain necessary services or supplies for themselves and their family or household members.
- To and from work when no other alternatives are available.
- To engage in activities or perform tasks essential to their health and safety, or to the health and safety of their family or household members.
- To care for elderly, minors, dependents, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable persons.
- To or from educational institutions for purposes of receiving materials for distance learning, for receiving meals, and any other related services.
- To return to a place of residence from outside the jurisdiction.
- Required by law enforcement or court order.
COTA implemented daily and hourly sanitization of vehicles two weeks ago and will continue this practice. Hand sanitizer stations are available on every vehicle.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost encourages Ohioans to follow these tips to avoid coronavirus-related scams:
- Watch out for emails claiming to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or other expert sources with special advice or information about the coronavirus. Legitimate information is available for free on the CDC’s website.
- Ignore online advertisements promoting cures for the coronavirus. According to the Federal Trade Commission, “There currently are no vaccines, pills, lotions, lozenges or other prescription or over-the-counter products available to treat or cure Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) online or in stores.”
- Research nonprofit organizations and crowdfunding campaigns before donating. A database of registered charities is available on the Ohio Attorney General’s website. Avoid groups that pressure you into donating and never donate via cash, gift cards, wire transfer or prepaid money card. These are the preferred payment methods of scammers.
- Be cautious of anyone going door to door offering coronavirus testing or temperature readings and requesting personal information. Call law enforcement immediately if you see a suspicious person. Never let strangers into your home.
- Beware of emails and other attempts to “phish” for your personal, financial and medical information. When in doubt, do not share. If the source claims to be your bank or a government agency, confirm they are legitimate by calling the organization at a phone number you have verified.
- Amid discussions of providing working families with government checks, know that nothing has been formalized yet. For more information, visit the Federal Trade Commission website and stay tuned for updates from reliable news sources.
- When online, avoid clicking on unknown links or pop-ups and never download any suspicious email attachment. Doing so could infect your devices with malicious software designed to steal your personal information or lock your computer until you pay a ransom.
